A long time ago I audited my entire media diet with a spreadsheet and then wrote an article about it for a long-gone but once-influential tech website called GigaOm. The basic idea was to rank everything I read 1-5 and then think about where it came from and prioritize those sources more. I’ve thought about doing it again, but I dislike such processes seemingly much more than you do, lol

I tried to find your article but couldn't -- would very much be interested in reading it! Answering the question of "what is good media" is a really complicated one, and I'm trying to understand the various perspectives!

My goal is to create a tool that simplifies this "media self-audit" process for myself and potentially others, and I shared some early screenshots of my prototype in my latest post! (It focuses mainly on global representativeness, which is just one of several dimensions I'm trying to track!)

I'm glad you also saw value in the process of self-auditing your media, even if the process was a bit taxing to complete!

Ah bummer about the article. A lot of articles that are more than a decade old get taken off websites if they aren’t earning enough revenue for whatever reason. I’ll see if I can find and repost it, maybe…
